Wonder no more, because for this session we have a Ph.D. candidate from Computation Modelling of Structures group working on his research. Manimaran Pari will be talking about his research on "Pushover analysis of unreinforced masonry structures using Sequentially Linear Analysis".
What is it about?
Finite element analyses (FEA), quite widely used in Civil Engineering practice for nonlinear analysis of structures, often run into convergence troubles when the material is brittle (e.g.: concrete, masonry, glass). In simple words, the solution obtained can often not be accurate enough and there is a need for a more robust solution procedure. Sequentially linear analysis (SLA), an alternative which has been under development in our research group for quite some time, is now being improved to practical applications like assessing the seismic performance of masonry buildings (in the context of the seismic situation in Groningen, Netherlands)
