Coffee and Cake Break

We have our first Coffee & Cake break scheduled on October 16 12:30 PM. Ever wondered what do our structural mechanics scholar do on sixth floor? Wonder no more, because for this session we have a Ph.D. candidate from Computation Modelling of Structures group working on his research. Manimaran Pari will be talking about his research on "Pushover analysis of unreinforced masonry structures using Sequentially Linear Analysis".

What is it about?

Finite element analyses (FEA),  quite widely used in Civil Engineering practice for nonlinear analysis of structures, often run into convergence troubles when the material is brittle (e.g.: concrete, masonry, glass). In simple words, the solution obtained can often not be accurate enough and there is a need for a more robust solution procedure. Sequentially linear analysis (SLA), an alternative which has been under development in our research group for quite some time, is now being improved to practical applications like assessing the seismic performance of masonry buildings (in the context of the seismic situation in Groningen, Netherlands)

Please join us on 16 October at 12:30 at the blue floor (Stevin II lab)  to know more about his research. The presentation will be followed by discussion. Throughout you can also enjoy coffee and cake from U-BASE. Hope to see a great turnout :)
