Step into the fascinating world of timber construction with ABT’s lecture on “Challenging the Structural Boundaries of the Existing Courthouse in The Hague”
While archival information is incomplete and occasionally contradictory, we managed to add a heavy roof garden, add a 4-storey extension to the existing pile foundation and make openings in stability cores and transfer structures. Without extensive calculations, knowledge of historic building and engineering practices and a fair amount of courage to push the structural boundary, we wouldn't have been able to improve the Palace of Justice and make it suitable again for 50 years of justice.
