This summer, 25 members including 24 students and 1 professor had the opportunity to travel to Japan for the 2025 Study Tour, which took place from 22 July to 5 August.
The group travelled between cities on the Shinkansen, visiting Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, where they were welcomed by engineering firms, universities, research institutions, and expositions. The programme focused on seismic design, flood mitigation, construction innovation, and sustainable infrastructure, offering students valuable insights into Japan’s advanced engineering practices.
Alongside the technical programme, participants also explored some of Japan’s smaller cities, including the beachside destination Kamakura, the historic Nara with its freely roaming deer, and Fujikawaguchiko with its stunning views of Mount Fuji. These cultural experiences provided a meaningful balance to the professional visits, allowing students to connect with Japan’s heritage, landscapes, and local life.
The Study Tour would not have been possible without the generous support of our partner companies and institutions: Antea Group Nederland, Aronsohn, Arup, IMd Raadgevende Ingenieurs BV, Iv, Nobleo Bouw & Infra, Sensor, TWD, Van Rossum Raadgevende Ingenieurs BV, and Witteveen+Bos. Their cooperation and contributions were invaluable in making this trip a reality.
Special thanks also go to all the host institutions and universities in Japan for their warm welcome and inspiring programmes, and to the Study Tour Committee for their hard work and dedication in bringing this unforgettable experience to life.
